Mobile mental healthcare unit for Northeastern Cyclades

The mobile mental healthcare unit in Northeastern Cyclades functions under the administrative and scientific responsibility of EPAPSY with funding from the Ministry of Healthcare, as well as the support of the local government and other local entities. All its services are provided for free.

As from 2004 it provides services on the islands of Paros, Antiparos, Syros, Tinos, Mykonos, Andros, working in the local healthcare centers and other premises provided by the Municipalities, in nurseries and other local non-profit organizations. The staff includes psychiatrists, among which certain specialized in children and adolescents, psychologists, social workers, specialized teachers and speech therapists.

The mobile unit works with children, adolescents and adults, with mental healthcare issues and social difficulties, offering the following services:

  • Diagnostic assessment
  • Counselling, mental healthcare sessions for adults, children, adolescents, families
  • Prescription of medicines
  • Home visits
  • Social support


Moreover, the mobile unit works on the following fronts:

  • Supporting vulnerable social groups and linking them up with professional and social actors
  • Promoting mental health awareness among the general public, the educational community and local institutions
  • Networking with the primary healthcare services for achieving a more efficient response to mental health therapeutic needs
  • Conducting research to identify needs and evaluate provided services aimed at improving the needed interventions.


Finally, in the framework of the programme Provision of specialized mental healthcare services by mobile units in North Eastern and Western Cyclades islands, the mobile unit is also implementing specialized activities focused on vulnerable groups with mental health issues in the region.
