Guesthouse ‘Odysseas’ – Protected Flat

Unit Identity

The guesthouse ‘Odysseas’ is a unit for psychosocial rehabilitation of long duration (max. 36 months long) established in December 2000 in the framework of the Ministry of Healthcare programme for the “direct support to the Psychiatric Hospital Dromokaitio”. It offers a therapeutic environment of care and support to its residents, adults with chronic mental health issues, based on the principles of outpatient care, psychosocial rehabilitation, social (re-)integration. The guesthouse staff is made of an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals working on a 24-hour basis.

Our unit’s objectives
  • Supporting the residents’ gradually growing autonomy in personal and community life
  • Supporting the residents’ communication with their families
  • Offering professional training and employment rehabilitation
  • Raising awareness in the community on the therapeutic treatment of people with severe psychiatric issues
  • Supporting the residents’ capacity for independent/semi-independent living
  • Providing a platform for training and traineeships for undergraduate students of psychology, social work etc.

  • Training on enhancing skills (self-care, road safety education, financial resources management etc.)

  • Collaboration with public/private actors for residents’ training and participation in employment schemes
Protected Flats

The guesthouse runs two protected flats in the Municipality of Aghia Paraskevi, under its scientific and administrative responsibility – each of them hosts four residents.  They are addressed to adults who have completed the guesthouse’s therapeutic rehabilitation programme and dispose of self-service and self-care skills. Having attained the capacity for independent living, they only have a reduced level of supervision and support from the guesthouse staff.
